Laurie Maun is a Textile Designer based in Hackney, East London. Although Laurie’s core study is textiles, she can also be viewed as a multidisciplinary artist, spreading into mediums such as printmaking, drawing, painting and photography.
She explores and responds to the relationship between texture, colour and shape mostly based on abstract form but also sometimes observational, figurative matter.
With an obsession for slow made/hand made process Laurie focuses on the importance of traditional craft and workmanship within the UK.

Each piece is hand made by Laurie in her Hackney studio. She uses a hand embroidery technique called couching which is created when a piece of yarn or other materials are laid across the surface of the ground fabric and fastened in place with small stitches of a different, usually finer yarn. Laurie’s love for fabric and sustainability comes through in her sourcing of material. In a bid to ensure that she isn’t contributing to the production of new fabrics Laurie uses only natural fibres and dead stock from designer factories to showcase and explore what can be done with the excess.
